VoIP Phone System for Small and Cost-Conscious Businesses

CallHippo is a safe virtual phone system that will make your support smoother, your sales faster, and your business better. It’s easy to set up and even easier to use. While CallHippo reviews show that this product is most popular in the software and IT, education, government, healthcare, hospitality, real estate, and retail industries, we think its potential is almost limitless if you need a VoIP phone system regardless of the area your business operates in.

Is CallHippo free? No. Is it affordable? Definitely yes. Compared to most of its alternatives, you will pay less for more. All plans are feature-rich, and since the pricing is so low, it's best suited for startups, SMEs, and cost-conscious businesses in general. That said, the CallHippo VoIP phone system can be used by large companies as well, since it offers an Enterprise plan with a plethora of advanced features.

CallHippo Features Overview

Our CallHippo review shows that there’s a lot that makes this platform stand out even when compared to the top call tracking solutions on the market.

Power Dialer

If your team is working with many outbound calls daily, the Power Dialer feature can be a real life-saver. Once you start a campaign, you only need to upload an excel sheet with all the contact numbers and they will get dialed automatically. Given how time-consuming it can be to dial every number manually, it’s no wonder CallHippo reviews highlight the Power Dialer as one of the platform’s strongest features. On the downside, it’s only available in the Platinum and Enterprises plans, and users would love to see some version of it in the lower tiers.

Automatic Call Distribution

The Automatic Call Distribution feature is an intuitive system that allows you to choose the order in which you want to route the incoming calls to your virtual phone number. It will automatically distribute them in that particular order. You can distribute calls simultaneously to all team members, in a fixed order, or equally among everyone with the Round Robin option. This feature is available in all plans.

Interactive Voice Response (IVR)

An IVR is not a unique feature, since most alternatives offer it, but many CallHippo reviews nevertheless claim it’s superior compared to the rest. An IVR is a pre-recorded voice that will help customers reach the right person. CallHippo offers both an inbound and an outbound IVR, meaning the system can deal with incoming (for example, for customer support) and outgoing calls (for example, for surveys). The IVR feature is available in the Silver, Platinum, and Enterprise plans. It also supports multi-language options.

Advanced Call Analytics and Reports

The system is tracking records on call volume, duration of calls, and routing of incoming and outgoing calls. The research for our CallHippo review shows that this feature is helpful for keeping track of team performance, courtesy of its advanced analytics, and reports. Call analytics is also handy for marketing campaigns since it gives you insight into your customer base. Compared to most CallHippo alternatives, for a lower price, you will get much more in-depth information that you can use to steer your teams in the right direction. This feature is available in the Silver, Platinum, and Enterprise plans.

Call Monitoring

Call Monitoring, better known as Call Barging in CallHippo reviews, is a feature that allows you to monitor a call silently. It also lets you barge into live calls during emergencies, train new agents during an ongoing phone call, or prevent unnecessary call transfers by providing the much-needed answer.

Call Monitoring is a standard feature offered by most call center software, but it’s among the most useful for large businesses and organizations. This is the reason why it’s offered only in the Platinum and Enterprise plans. That said, it would be nice to see a limited version of it in the lower tiers, as seen in some CallHippo alternatives.

Warm and Blind Call Transfer

The built-in call transfer feature allows you to easily redirect a connected call from your phone number to a team member. Our CallHippo review shows that unlike most alternatives, this platform offers two types of Call Transfer – Warm and Blind.

The Warm Transfer allows you to redirect the call to another team member, and after they answer, you will be instantly disconnected. The Blind Transfer (also known as Cold or Unannounced) will redirect an active call when it’s not mandatory to speak to the intended recipient. If there is no answer, the call is disconnected.

The Call Transfer feature is only available in the Platinum and Enterprise plans, and we agree with other CallHippo reviews that since smaller businesses can also benefit from it, it should be included in cheaper packages too.

VoIP Call Recording

VoIP Call Recording is, without a doubt, the most popular CallHippo feature. Unlike the biggest CallHippo competitors, it’s available with all plans. One of its biggest strengths is that all calls are auto-recorded and saved on the cloud space, never exposed to any physical damage. You can record up to 100,000 calls per account (regardless if they are inbound or outbound) and will be able to download them within 90 days.

SDAP – Patent Pending Technology

SDAP is a new patent-pending technology from CallHippo that was designed to enhance call quality in real-time. It automatically configures your calling system and improves the whole experience. The algorithm analyzes several parameters when a call is made, and if needed, changes the configuration in real-time. This is a unique feature that can’t be seen in other call service software solutions. The best part? It comes with all plans – Bronze, Silver, Platinum, and Enterprise.

Phone Numbers

CallHippo further offers several numbers options, starting with a virtual phone number that enables businesses to establish a local presence in 50+ countries. Features of this service worth highlighting in our CallHippo review include call transfer, barging, queuing, analytics, smart switch, and on-hold music. The VoIP phone number meanwhile provides more communication options, such as instant messaging and chat conferencing. CallHippo also has toll-free numbers for those companies which do not wish to burden their callers with extra costs. Last but not least, the vendor can set you up with a cloud-based business phone number accessible from anywhere in the world.

CallHippo Integrations

CallHippo offers more than 100 integrations for sales automation, CRM, HelpDesk, productivity, ecommerce, data and reporting, survey and marketing, and recruitment and ERP. They are best for both sales and support teams. Some of the most popular worth a mention in this CallHippo review are Zendesk, Zoho, Zapier, Intercom, Salesforce, Freshdesk, Pipedrive, Slack, Shopify, Microsoft Dynamics, Groove, and Hubspot.

CallHippo Pricing

While there is no CallHippo free trial nor a free version, this platform is nevertheless recommended for startups and small businesses on account of being extremely affordable. That said, its more advanced features make it suitable for well-established enterprises too.

Bronze

The Bronze plan is priced at $14/user/month if billed annually or $18/user/month if billed monthly. According to CallHippo’s website, this plan is best for outbound calling teams and includes one standard number free with each user, call forwarding to multiple devices (tip: use the CallHippo app to avoid charges), SMS, and voicemail. It also unlocks teams, call recording, and SDAP: Patent Pending Technology.

The research for our CallHippo review shows that this plan makes the platform more affordable than some alternatives, such as Nextiva or GoTo, which have a starting price at $19.95/user/month.

Silver

If you go with the Silver plan, the CallHippo cost will be $18/user/month if billed annually or $24/user/month if billed monthly. This plan is best for small teams, especially in the sales and marketing industries. It includes everything in Bronze, and adds unlimited incoming calls, IVR, live call, call queuing, user working hours, call reminder, after-call work, and internal team calling. You can also set user priority order with the call cascading feature. Other available features are holiday routing, feedback for calls, intelligent reports, and analytics. You are also able to Call Scribe for $10/user.

For comparison, CallRail’s call tracking software is priced at $45 per month, while CallHippo offers this option with a bundle of other features for almost a third of the price.

Platinum

The Platinum plan comes in at $30/user/month if billed annually or $40/user/month if billed monthly, and CallHippo reviews show it’s the most popular choice. It was built for power users and includes everything in Silver, plus power dialer, call transfer, 3-way calling, call barging, IP whitelisting, app blocking, and route to an external number. It also offers a custom caller ID available upon request and can forward calls to multiple devices.

Enterprise

The Enterprise plan has custom pricing. In terms of features, it offers everything in Platinum, adding personalized onboarding, prioritized custom development, advanced integrations, custom integrations, and custom reports to the mix. It also has the Bring Your Own Carrier feature, which is still in beta – it makes incoming calls work from your current VoIP carrier. Other features for Enterprise users include annual business review, dedicated account manager, and unlimited users and custom discounts.

CallHippo Customer Service

Regardless of the plan you are using, you will have access to 24/7 email, phone, and live chat support. During the research for our CallHippo review, we also found a comprehensive knowledge base available for all users and access to the help center, where you can find the answers to the most common questions and problems.

Platinum users also have access to an onboarding coach and dedicated customer success manager. VIP hotline, SLA, one-to-one onboarding sessions, and volume discounts meanwhile are available to Enterprise users.

Our Verdict

CallHippo is a reliable and safe platform with affordable prices and a plethora of features. It’s easy to set up and navigate and applies new technology that automates the process of improving voice quality in real-time. The vendor has an excellent 24/7 email, phone, and chat support for all users with a response time of less than an hour for the most critical cases.

On the flip side, CallHippo’s biggest flaw is that it offers several crucial features only with the higher tiers. The vendor doesn’t offer a free trial either, so you will have to pay to test the product. Then, many CallHippo reviews mention that the UI looks a bit outdated and could use a revamp. This, however, has nothing to do with functionality, only with aesthetics.

Still, we consider that the pros outweigh the cons, so if you decide to choose CallHippo as your voice-over-internet-protocol phone system, there’s a good chance you won’t regret it.
