Launched in 2009 by Michael Nusimow and Daniel Kivatinos, DrChrono was designed to make dealing with the US healthcare system easier. Both of them had loved ones with serious diagnoses who struggled with administrative burdens, so they decided to eliminate the red tape. The platform already has more than 17 million patients, with an average of 1.2 million monthly appointments. So, what makes DrChrono special? We did our research and went through numerous DrChrono reviews to find out.

Apple-Friendly Platform for Medical Practices and Healthcare Providers

Many DrChrono reviews show that the software is best known in the world of Apple, which shouldn't come as a surprise since most medical professionals seem to lean towards this platform. This is one of the main reasons why the company focused its efforts on creating the most comprehensive Apple-friendly platform for the healthcare industry. It has apps for Macintosh, iPad, iPhone, and Safari.

That said, DrChrono is also available for browser use with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and desktop use with Windows. With some of DrChrono’s features dependent on Apple's software and hardware, however, some limitations with these apps have been reported. There is no Android DrChrono app yet either.

Despite these limitations, DrChrono is an all-in-one software solution that includes everything a medical practitioner might need. From EHR to a patient portal, the platform has it all. While DrChrono Chiropractic EHR is one of the most popular versions, all medical branches can make use of the product.

That said, some DrChrono user reviews flag a major drawback — you will have to use DrChrono's EMR and practice management software since others are not compatible with it. This can be frustrating if you are already using another platform. On the other hand, if you are willing to make the change, or are a new user, it is worth the effort.

DrChrono Platforms

DrChrono offers many useful platforms for medical practices of all sizes. Starting with a comprehensive EHR and Telehealth, to medical billing and a patient portal, DrChrono was built to adapt to all medical practitioners' needs.

Electronic Health Records (EHR)

Plenty of positive DrChrono EHR reviews claim this is one of the best solutions currently available for the healthcare industry. Compared to some of its alternatives, it's more customizable and accessible. The intuitive iPad app meanwhile will enable you to spend less time on the computer and more time with your patient.

The EMR is also fully integrated (unlike what most DrChrono competitors offer), which is both a good and a bad thing according to various DrChrono EMR reviews. While this is an asset for some users since they don't have to worry about finding software that will seamlessly integrate with their EHR, some medical practitioners already use a different EMR, making it frustrating to start over. There might even be a learning curve for those who will transfer from a completely different system.

Telehealth

DrChrono's Telehealth is HIPAA-compliant software that allows you to schedule and conduct virtual visits. It's a unique platform rarely seen in other EHR software solutions. With Telehealth, you can either schedule appointments or let patients schedule their own in-person or video visits (through the Patient Portal), as well as send them automated emails. The patients do not need to have DrChrono installed on their end. They just receive a link that will take them to their virtual visit.

Practice Management

Most DrChrono reviews don’t mention the platform’s practice management software that will help you achieve consistent workflow by automating all mundane tasks. You will be able to spend more time with your patients and give them the care they need. The software was further voted #1 Mobile EHR for eight years in a row.

Medical Billing

Having the proper medical billing software is crucial to the financial health of your practice. Unlike some of its biggest competitors, DrChrono offers integrated medical billing, intelligent reporting tools, and advanced billing features to help you reduce human errors and automate critical parts of your workflow. According to many DrChrono billing reviews, its most useful tools are billing profiles, real-time eligibility, claims submission, denial resolutions, patient statements, and medical codes.

Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)

DrChrono RCM is one of the industry’s most popular services. It can help you maintain income stability even during the busiest of times. The RCM service includes DrChrono billing experts, coding compliance officers, and certified medical coders who will help you improve your clean claim rates, turnaround on denials, and cash flow. You will also have complete transparency in the whole process, with all claims available in your DrChrono dashboard.

According to DrChrono’s stats, their RCM can lead to 96%+ clean claim submission rate, 96% of claims paid within 60 days, and 48 hours turnaround on denials. These numbers are significantly higher than those of the competition.

Patient Portal

Our DrChrono review continues with one of the most important platforms – the OnPatient Portal. It lets you communicate directly with your patients and help them get a more significant role in managing their health. The HIPAA-compliant portal was designed to secure communication, encourage engagement, and help your patients feel more connected to your practice. It also allows your patients to fill out forms and sign consents before coming to your office to minimize paperwork and save time for more important matters. Many patients reckon that DrChrono's OnPatient Portal succeeds in this, and most of them would recommend it over alternatives.

Mobile EHR App

If you have read one DrChrono EHR review, you have read them all — the same goes for the software’s mobile app. The iPad and iPhone-compatible DrChrono EHR is what makes the software solution stand apart. Users further say the mobile version is sleeker, faster, and more convenient than the desktop version. This is almost impossible to experience in the software industry, but it seems that DrChrono does it effortlessly.

The only downside is that they have focused all their resources on iOS (it's available for iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch) and wholly neglected Android users. While it would seem that most medical practitioners use an Apple product, some do prefer Android, and for them, unfortunately, there’s no app. This is one of the areas where DrChrono severely lacks compared to its competitors.

DrChrono Pricing Plans

There are four pricing plans available from DrChrono – Prometheus, Hippocrates, Apollo, and Apollo Plus. Even though all their features are publicly known and explained in great detail on their website, the vendor has not officially disclosed the pricing. That said, we did a little digging and can tell you what to expect from each one of them. We, however, suggest that you use these numbers only as general guidance and contact DrChrono directly for more details. The DrChrono phone number is (844) 569-8628.

Apollo Plus (EHR, Practice Management, and Revenue Cycle Management)

Apollo Plus’s pricing is even less straightforward since it adds the revenue cycle management system, starting at 6% of claims submitted and payments received. The RCM pricing, however, goes down as the volume increases. The plan ups the previous package with:

  • 600 text and 600 phone reminders
  • 2000 incoming/outgoing e-Faxes
  • Advanced business intelligence tools + app
  • Comprehensive billing and coding services
  • Denial management
  • Patient collections/statements
  • Monthly financial performance reports and review
  • AR management
  • Dedicated support phone line
  • Dedicated billing specialist and manager
  • Dedicated account manager

As you can see, the DrChrono EHR software offers feature-rich software solutions at an affordable price. Compared to its biggest competitors, DrChrono is one step ahead on both fronts. If we add to it the reliability, safety, and stability of the DrChrono platform, we instantly get software that's good value for the money.

DrChrono Support

DrChrono's customer support offers software updates, feature-specific educational messages and videos, an online help center, a dedicated account manager, as well as periodic and proactive checks. Based on many longtime users' testimonies, DrChrono customer service is always there to help.

When you first encounter a problem, we suggest finding an answer in the hundreds of articles provided by DrChrono. This includes how-to manuals and frequently asked questions covering how to deal with the most common issues.

If you can't find an answer, you can submit a support request with your username through email. The request includes a short description of the problem and priority level. A file can also be attached to explain the issue further. Once your request reaches the support team, someone will contact you as soon as possible. The only downside is that you can't specify the method for DrChrono to contact you back or schedule a call. This can be a bit frustrating since they might call you at an inconvenient time. This is where the software lacks compared to the competition.

Final Verdict

Our DrChrono review can conclude that the software is safe, stable, and reliable. It's an all-in-one HIPAA-compliant platform suitable for medical practices of all sizes. The DrChrono cost is affordable, and the software comes with a lot of advanced and unique features that can't be found elsewhere. DrChrono’s integrated EMR, however, can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on your willingness to switch platforms.

The software has several "hiccups" too, its lack of Android compatibility being the most notable. Since most medical practitioners in the US prefer iOS and macOS, DrChrono doesn't have any short-term plans to develop an Android app.

At the end of the day, it’s about your needs. If you are an Apple user and are not already relying on a different EMR platform, feel free to trust all the good DrChrono reviews out there and give the software a go. If, however, that is not the case, you’d be better off looking for a more suitable alternative.
